B W & J Orr Farm, a commercial beef and sheep farm in South Lanarkshire, wanted to improve its operations and meet the conditions of the Scottish Government’s Beef Efficiency Scheme. They sought to reduce their emissions and move away from traditional practices. With grant funding, they enlisted an agricultural consultant who utilized the Agrecalc farm carbon calculator to conduct an audit and identify key areas for improvement.

Using the Agrecalc solution, the farm implemented a plan focusing on fertility, nutrition, and animal health. The results were significant; between 2017 and 2020, the farm achieved a 48.52% increase in output while reducing total emissions per kilo of output by 34%. This improvement in carbon efficiency was closely linked to enhanced financial performance. The business continues to use Agrecalc to monitor its progress and inform its decision-making.
