QLogic, a global leader in high-performance networking, needed a secure way to license and activate value-add features on its embedded network adapters and controllers, many of which operate in disconnected environments. The company also needed the solution to fit within a very small memory footprint and work with its proprietary firmware system. QLogic used Agilis Software’s Orion Network Licensing Platform for this embedded licensing challenge.

Agilis Software implemented a node-locked, disconnected-mode activation process that tied licenses to each adapter’s hardware serial number and used encrypted fingerprint and activation files exchanged through QLogic’s ecommerce and back-office systems. The Orion client was adapted to QLogic’s embedded environment in just a couple of weeks, and the result was a transparent, secure, automated licensing workflow. QLogic reported smooth operation, high availability with 100% uptime over three months for a single Orion Server, and successful feature delivery both in the field and in manufacturing.
