Seamless On-Prem to Cloud Migration of over 500 TB data, for a Global M&E Conglomerate

Agile GCP Labs worked with Universal Music Group, a global media and entertainment company, to address major challenges in its on-prem data warehouse environment. The customer was dealing with siloed data sources, rising data volumes from streaming partners, more than 24-hour data latency, high maintenance downtime, and security concerns across a single legacy MS SQL Server and Oracle-based setup.

Agile GCP Labs implemented an on-prem to cloud migration to Google Cloud Platform, using Google BigQuery as the new data warehouse along with Google Cloud Storage, Google Compute Engine, and Google Cloud Dataflow, and added MicroStrategy for enterprise reporting. The result was a unified source of truth, faster processing and analytics, and much lower latency, cutting query time from 1 day to 10 seconds and processing over 50 TB in under a minute, while also reducing total cost of ownership by 56-88% and infrastructure costs by 20%.
