How One County Saved $800,000 By Right-Sizing their Fleet

Forsyth County, North Carolina faced rising fleet costs, paper-based motor pool processes, and lack of utilization data across a large operation serving 2,000 users with more than 400 daily vehicle requests. To right-size its fleet and curb high personally owned vehicle (POV) reimbursements, the county turned to Agile Fleet and its FleetCommander motor pool and fleet management technology.

Agile Fleet implemented FleetCommander — deploying self-service kiosks, secure key boxes, web-based dispatching and real-time utilization dashboards across four locations (managing 127 of 620 vehicles) — which enabled Forsyth County to cut 30 vehicles (about 8% of the fleet), avert roughly $800,000 in replacement costs, include a $300,000 reduction in next-year non-emergency vehicle budget, realize more than $120,000 in annual ongoing savings, and reduce POV expenses by 50%. Agile Fleet’s solution also automated reservations, policy enforcement and reporting, driving immediate operational efficiencies and further opportunities to optimize fleet size.
