GIPHY wanted to bring more emotion and human expression back to digital communication, as most search engines were built for a text-only internet. To help organize and discover GIFs beyond text, GIPHY experimented with Affectiva’s SDK to automatically tag GIFs with emotions and reactions.

Affectiva’s technology helped GIPHY more efficiently catalog GIFs into specific sentiments, improving search and discovery across its platform. The solution was also used in real-time events like the presidential elections to surface relevant reaction GIFs and comment on candidates’ emotional states, supporting GIPHY’s mission to make online communication more expressive.
