Brain Power System, a science-based neurotechnology company focused on autism support, developed an augmented reality smart-glass system to help children and adults with autism build social and cognitive skills. A key challenge was improving emotion recognition and understanding, which are critical for users who need support with facial expressions, body language, eye contact, and related social cues. Affectiva’s emotion recognition technology was used as part of the platform.

Affectiva worked closely with Brain Power since early 2016, providing its emotion recognition SDK to power real-time emotion analysis in the Brain Power System. The collaboration improved usability, accuracy, and scientific robustness, and beta testing with more than 200 children produced extremely positive results. Affectiva’s support helped Brain Power advance the system into a stronger, more effective tool for autism education and therapy.
