GREE Delivers Relevant In-Game Ads With a Compelling Experience for Mobile Gamers

GREE, a global leader in free-to-play mobile games, needed to deliver highly relevant in-game ads without disrupting gameplay or hurting retention. The company relies on real-time, up-to-the-moment customer profiles and must complete reads, writes and updates within milliseconds to serve personalized campaigns alongside active play.

GREE implemented the Aerospike database to run those calculations and store profiles, managing over 1,000 campaigns per user (about 100 bytes each) with millisecond latency. Running two cloud clusters — an in-memory DRAM serving cluster and an HDD backup cluster linked via cross data center replication — GREE achieved low latency, full replication and business continuity, improving ad relevance and monetization while maintaining a seamless gaming experience.
