Louisville Gas & Electric reduces duct leakage by 88% with Aeroseal

Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) was facing significant occupant comfort issues at its operations center annex due to an HVAC system that could not be balanced. The challenge was traced to extensive leakage in old, inaccessible ductwork, making traditional sealing or replacement impractical. LG&E enlisted the help of vendor Aeroseal to address this problem.

Aeroseal's duct sealing technology was implemented by its contractor, Critical Environmental Solutions. The process involved sealing the ducts from the inside without invasive demolition. This solution successfully reduced total duct leakage from 7,011 CFM to 892 CFM, an average reduction of 88% across eight zones. The results allowed the HVAC system to be properly balanced, resolving the comfort issues and improving energy efficiency and indoor air quality for the customer.
