Inova Health System Uses Advarra eReg Workflows and Integrations to Improve Regulatory Efficiency

Inova Health System, Northern Virginia’s leading nonprofit healthcare provider, faced growing regulatory burden as its research program expanded and wanted to avoid adding staff to manage increased protocol volume. After evaluating options, Inova selected the Advarra eRegulatory Management System (Advarra eReg), which their analysis projected would deliver at least a 20% efficiency gain over other solutions.

Advarra went live with Advarra eReg in November 2019, providing 21 CFR Part 11 validation support and enterprise-ready workflows and integrations (OnCore, CIRBI, an in-house eIRB and email). Inova executed nearly 5,000 electronic signatures in year one—an estimated minimum savings of 50,000 minutes (≈833 staff hours, or ~104 eight-hour workdays) from a 10-minute-per-signature estimate—while master delegation and system workflows further reduced signature chasing and duplicate work. Advarra’s solution and Onsemble community access helped Inova improve regulatory efficiency, compliance, and scalability without proportional staffing increases.
