General Cable, a Fortune 500 wire and cable manufacturer, faced a challenge in maintaining consistent production data analytics and controlling process variation across its numerous global plants. To address this, the company sought a solution from vendor Advantive, opting to implement their InfinityQS ProFicient manufacturing intelligence and statistical process control (SPC) platform.

Advantive's solution involved creating a centralized data repository and implementing over 100 applications to monitor processes and automatically collect quality data. This allowed General Cable to use control charts to identify trends, drive out variations, and retarget raw material use. The results were significant, with the company achieving substantial savings in raw material costs on three production lines and increasing process capability indices (Cpks) to 4 or 5 on key processes.
