Case Study: Vessel Communication Solutions Provider achieves reliable, cloud-enabled SATCOM marine communications with Advantech ARK-2230 and WISE-PaaS

Versatile Embedded Computer for Efficient Marine Communication

The customer, Vessel Communication Solutions Provider, needed a SATCOM-based onboard system with proprietary software to deliver ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communications, remote monitoring and control, and crew Internet/voice services while operating in a highly turbulent, wide-temperature, and variable-power marine environment. Advantech was selected to provide the rugged hardware and platform support, notably the fanless ARK-2230 embedded computer and Advantech’s WISE-PaaS software suite.

Advantech deployed the ARK-2230 with a dual-LAN iDoor module (supporting four LAN ports total) and WISE-PaaS/RMM for remote monitoring and device management, providing a lockable DC jack, wide voltage input (9–36 V) and wide temperature operation (–20 °C to 60 °C). This solution connected each vessel into a satellite-enabled IoT/cloud communication hub, enabling remote fleet control, real-time situational awareness, and reliable voice/Internet services for crews—improving fleet management, system robustness, and time-to-market for the Vessel Communication Solutions Provider.
