Tunnel Monitoring System for Superhighways in Yunnan

Superhighways in Yunnan, China faced complex, long winding routes with eight tunnels, variable weather and fluctuating traffic that demanded reliable real-time monitoring to reduce accidents and congestion. Advantech was engaged to provide a tunnel monitoring solution, using APAX PACs, EKI industrial Ethernet switches and the WebAccess IoT/SCADA platform to meet these operational and safety requirements.

Advantech implemented integrated subsystems for lighting, ventilation, traffic guidance, CCTV, fire alarm/control, emergency communication and PA, connected via EKI switches with X‑Ring redundancy and APAX-5580/5620 controllers and managed through WebAccess HMI/SCADA. The deployment delivered under-10 ms network recovery, continuous control and resilient data logging (even during HMI crashes), improving operational reliability, enabling real-time traffic and environmental management, and contributing to accident prevention and reduced congestion on the Superhighways in Yunnan, China.
