Test Equipment Company needed a compact, server‑grade solution to run highly parallel, high‑bandwidth tests for SSDs, HDDs, PCIe and hybrid drives throughout production. Their requirements included fitting on a 10 x 20 cm carrier board, supporting simultaneous testing of 500+ units via multi‑lane PCIe Gen3 expansion, low power consumption, and efficient heat dissipation. Advantech’s SOM-5992 COM Express Basic Module was chosen to meet these constraints.

Advantech implemented the SOM-5992 (Intel Xeon) to deliver high compute density with up to 32 PCIe lanes (supporting an 8 × PCIe x4 Gen3 configuration), dual 10 GbE, up to 64 GB DDR4, and a 45 W TDP with an efficient thermal design. The result was a compact, modular test platform that met the 10 GbE throughput and BMC management needs, enabled simultaneous testing of 500+ drives, reduced power and cooling challenges, and improved maintainability and scalability for Test Equipment Company.
