Leading German Automobile Manufacturing Company opened a new engine factory in Shenyang, China that replicates its European casting, machining and final-assembly standards and requires extremely high precision (machining accuracy down to 6 microns). To meet strict traceability, material retrieval and quality-control challenges on the shop floor, the customer selected Advantech’s PWS-870 industrial tablets as the on-line operator interface and data-capture device.

Advantech deployed PWS-870 tablets connected to the factory intranet and integrated with barcode/QR scanners and custom ERP software to receive material orders, manage component distribution and scan every cast part before the next assembly step. Advantech’s solution provided real-time data transmission to the back-end database, created a production record for every engine for full traceability, sped up material retrieval and error identification, and helped the factory maintain European-level quality and efficiency standards.
