Proactive Maintenance Creates New Business Model for Elevator Suppliers

Elevator/Escalator Suppling Company, a major Asian elevator and escalator supplier with over 3,500 installations in Taiwan, needed to shift from time-based, on-site inspections and reactive repairs to a proactive, remotely managed maintenance model. They turned to Advantech and its Edge Intelligence Server (EIS) and WISE‑PaaS software stack to collect motor temperature and vibration data at the edge, unify diverse sensor formats, and enable centralized monitoring and control.

Advantech implemented the EIS with WISE‑Agent, Node‑RED flow logic, and WISE‑PaaS/RMM to preprocess data, convert it to MQTT, trigger automatic shutdowns when thresholds were exceeded, and push only significant events to the backend. The solution enabled real‑time, centralized oversight across geographically dispersed units, reduced server load and communications costs, and let the customer deploy a proactive R&M business model—delivering a working system in 4–5 months, roughly one and a half years sooner than an independent development would have.
