Palm-size Embedded Computer Provides Cost-effective Preventive Maintenance for Industrial Band Saws

Leading Global Equipment Manufacturing Company, a Taiwan-based precision mechanical and electrical technology firm and global maker of industrial band saws, needed to add machine monitoring and preventive maintenance to its products but faced tight control-cabinet space, harsh operating conditions, and the high cost and complexity of US‑sourced USB DAQ or PC-plus-DAQ solutions. The company required multi-channel analog/digital I/O, fast sampling and Ethernet connectivity in a compact, rugged package — challenges Advantech was asked to solve.

Advantech supplied the palm‑size MIC-1810 embedded data-acquisition computer (8‑ch current input, 4‑ch RTD, fanless, DIN‑rail mount) and WebAccess/MCM monitoring software, enabling direct sensor connections, real‑time and cloud remote monitoring, FFT filtering and oscilloscope views for signal validation. With Advantech’s customization to eliminate interference and a tailored industrial design, the solution delivered cost savings versus the original plan, enabled practical predictive maintenance that reduces emergency repairs and downtime, improved productivity and product competitiveness, and preserved the customer’s high-end brand image.
