A Advantech Case Study
Nippon Valqua Industries, Ltd., a leading Japanese manufacturer of industrial packing, gaskets and welded metal bellows, faced the challenge of extending the service life of welded bellows by reducing concentrated stresses around welded portions. Advantech supported the effort, leveraging ANSYS® simulation tools and APDL-driven automation to apply parameterized shape optimization to the corrugated plate geometry.
Advantech implemented a parameter-design optimization on an axisymmetric model of the bellows’ corrugated plate, automating model shape changes and result collection with ANSYS/APDL. The optimized geometry reduced Von Mises stress versus the existing and competitor/straight designs, improved deformation behavior, and achieved markedly better durability in testing (exceeding one million operations), delivering clear, measurable gains in product quality and lifetime.
