A Advantech Case Study
Network Equipment Providing Company faced the challenge of modernizing Gi‑LAN deployments that historically relied on many separate proprietary, fixed‑function appliances to run demanding packet‑processing workloads (DPI, CG‑NAT, firewalling, load balancing, video optimization, etc.). These siloed platforms made the Gi‑LAN inflexible and costly to operate and evolve, creating strong pressure to move toward an open NFV/SDN/Service Function Chaining model to improve scalability, agility and service monetization. Advantech was engaged to address this transition.
Advantech delivered its FWA‑6170 high‑end network appliance, leveraging Intel DPDK and Intel Hyperscan to consolidate multiple Gi‑LAN functions onto a single, 2U platform. The FWA‑6170 provides wire‑speed IP packet classification using two Intel Xeon Platinum CPUs (up to 28 cores each), support for up to 8 Network Mezzanine Cards, up to 768 GB memory, advanced management and security (TPM, BMC/AMI remote management), and hot‑swappable FRUs. By deploying Advantech’s platform the customer gained service function chaining capability, higher throughput and scalability, reduced hardware footprint and operational complexity, and a clear, measurable uplift in packet‑processing capacity (wire‑speed classification and multi‑100GbE I/O support).
