Munich Airport Intelligent Transportation Optimizes Fleet Dispatch

Munich Airport, which handles over 38 million passengers annually, faced chronic shuttle-bus scheduling bottlenecks—especially during peak holidays—causing long passenger waits and delays that affected aircraft turnaround. In 2013 Munich Airport selected Advantech and its fleet-scheduling solution, deploying TREK-550 in-vehicle computer terminals to address shuttle dispatch and passenger information gaps.

Advantech implemented a fleet scheduling system with TREK-550 units in every shuttle and extended the platform to fuel, baggage and service vehicles (including RFID and barcode integrations), enabling real‑time communications, dual-display route/flight info, GPS and robust wireless connectivity. The Advantech solution optimized daily routes and dispatch logic, significantly increasing vehicle scheduling efficiency, reducing passenger wait times, improving on-time departures, and making the system replicable across other airport operations.
