A Advantech Case Study
MRI Equipment Manufacturing Company needed a way to boost imaging processing power and extend product lifecycles without redesigning their CompactPCI-based MRI platforms. They required a drop-in, long‑term supply solution that preserved form, fit and function while enabling multicore performance and higher memory capacity. Advantech was selected as the supplier of the platform processing element, providing its MIC-3396 6U CompactPCI blade as the upgrade path.
Advantech delivered the MIC-3396 (a 4th‑generation Intel® Core™ based CompactPCI SBC) and used its Customized COTS program to match the customer’s existing CPU blade form factor, enabling a seamless swap. The upgrade gave the customer up to 16 GB of memory (8× the prior capacity) and more than 14× the processing performance versus the legacy Pentium M board, allowing higher channel densities, new software capabilities and longer product lifecycles with minimal R&D or manufacturing disruption.
