A Advantech Case Study
Manufacturing Company faced the challenge of improving operational efficiency across multiple factories that used disparate PLCs, fieldbus networks, sensors and legacy systems—without the time, cost and disruption of wholesale system replacements. Advantech was engaged to address this with its multi‑protocol, cross‑system integration solution, using Ethernet I/O modules, serial‑to‑Ethernet and fieldbus gateways plus WebAccess/SCADA and WebAccess/NMS for centralized, browser‑based monitoring and management.
Advantech implemented Ethernet I/O modules and protocol‑converting gateways to collect and normalize on‑site data, forwarding it over industrial Ethernet switches and cellular routers to centralized WebAccess platforms for real‑time graphical monitoring and control. The deployment eliminated the need for extensive PLC reprogramming, improved transmission speed and redundancy, reduced operating and maintenance time and costs, and enabled easier future upgrades and cross‑factory coordination.
