A Advantech Case Study
Leading Mobile Infrastructure Company faced the challenge of building next‑generation eNodeB/RAN platforms capable of handling rapidly growing broadband traffic, increased encryption/compression, tight latency demands and the consolidation of control and data‑plane functions for LTE. To meet these requirements they engaged Advantech, which proposed its Advanced Mezzanine Card solutions (notably the AMC-4201 and the enhanced AMC-4202) based on Freescale QorIQ processors to provide the flexible, high‑performance embedded processing needed for MicroTCA‑based eNodeB designs.
Advantech delivered AMC modules that combined multi‑core QorIQ processing with rich I/O and telecom features — e.g., the AMC-4201 (P4080) with up to 8 e500mc cores at 1.5 GHz, one front‑panel 10GbE SFP+, configurable SERDES (SRIO/PCIe/XAUI/SGMII), up to 8 GB DDR3 ECC and typical power <32 W, and the AMC-4202 (P5020) optimized for control‑plane workloads. This solution let the customer consolidate RNC functions into the eNodeB, accelerate MicroTCA development, support higher throughput and lower latency for LTE deployments, and reduce legacy code rework — delivering a measurable, production‑grade hardware baseline that met their performance and integration targets.
