A Advantech Case Study
Infrastructure and Equipment Manufacturing Company, a major telecommunications equipment manufacturer, faced the challenge of building a scalable, field-upgradable softswitch/VoIP platform that could grow capacity without costly “forklift” replacements. They turned to Advantech and its CompactPCI® processing blades (initially the MIC-3369C, then the MIC-3392 and later the MIC-3395) to align with an open, standards-based architecture and Intel’s embedded processor roadmap.
Advantech delivered a staged upgrade path culminating in the MIC-3395 3rd generation Intel® Core™ CompactPCI® blade, enabling plug-compatible field upgrades that preserved existing chassis and infrastructure. The MIC-3395 provides up to 8× the memory capacity and more than 12× the performance of the original MIC-3369C (supporting up to 16 GB with ECC), six independent GbE ports, XMC and mass‑storage options, and low-power embedded processors — allowing Infrastructure and Equipment Manufacturing Company to increase channel density, add software features and extend installed-base life while meeting mission-critical availability and reliability requirements.
