A Advantech Case Study
Public Transportation Company needed a compact, easy-to-maintain industrial motherboard for its passenger information system (PIS) at high-speed rail and underground stations. The system required strong compute and graphics capabilities to handle simultaneous streamed video, fast database updates and long-term, outdoor/semi-outdoor operation; Advantech’s AIMB-217 industrial Mini-ITX (THIN, fanless) motherboard was selected to meet those requirements.
Advantech implemented the AIMB-217 powered by Intel Pentium/Celeron/Atom (Apollo Lake) processors, delivering a 30% CPU and 45% graphics performance boost versus prior generations, support for 4K2K and three simultaneous displays, rich I/O (Mini PCIe/M.2, multiple COM/USB, dual LAN) and -20 to 70 °C operation in a fanless design. As a result, Advantech’s solution improved display quality and media performance for the PIS, enabled reliable long-term service in semi-outdoor rail environments and reduced total cost of ownership.
