Implementing an Advanced Traffic Management System with Advantech’s Industrial Networking Solution

Metropolitan City in Nebraska faced an aging field network with insufficient bandwidth, no fiber-based redundancy between intersections, and endpoint devices that lacked PoE+ power — all barriers to deploying an advanced traffic management system. The city engaged Advantech to provide an industrial networking solution, centered on the EKI-7712G-4FPI L2 managed Ethernet switches plus SFP modules and DIN-rail power supplies to meet traffic-grade environmental and power needs.

Advantech deployed EKI-7712G-4FPI switches to deliver full Gigabit per port connectivity, multi-mode and single-mode SFP uplinks (short- and long-reach), L2 features for VLAN and redundancy, and PoE+ support (up to 30 W per device with 240 W PSE capacity) to power cameras and radios. Advantech’s solution passed environmental and traffic POC tests, established a resilient fiber ring across intersections, improved overall traffic-network performance, and enabled a smooth system upgrade backed by on-site consultancy and timely support.
