How Advantech Improves Air Ambulance Performance the Helicopter Emergency Medical Services

Leading Helicopter Emergency Medical Service Provider needed accurate, continuous weather information to support pilots operating in remote, mountainous terrain where sudden weather changes often force turnbacks. Wired Ethernet (copper or fiber) proved impractical, so the provider turned to Advantech and its LTE SmartStart routers as an industrial-grade wireless alternative.

Advantech implemented LTE SmartStart routers in small remote weather stations, linking thermometers, barometers, anemometers, rain gauges, sensors, computers and two–three high‑specification cameras to transmit data simultaneously to the central control room and directly to helicopters. Advantech’s solution (routers rated to operate from –40 to 75°C and resistant to EMP) delivered reliable real‑time weather updates, improved pilot decision‑making, maintained communications in extreme conditions, and enabled safer, more effective rescue operations.
