Highway Tunnel Monitoring Control System Helps Ease Traffic Chaos

The Chinese Southwestern Province faced chronic highway congestion and safety risks in tunnel sections and needed an integrated monitoring and control system. Advantech provided the solution, deploying its fanless embedded controller ITA-1611 for front-end fire alarm and suppression processing and the ITA-3630 traffic management controller for CCTV, alongside integration of lighting, ventilation, traffic guidance, emergency telephones, broadcasting, and other subsystems.

Advantech’s implementation delivers rugged 24/7 operation—ITA-1611 supports wide temperature/voltage ranges and up to 6 serial ports to connect sensors, while ITA-3630 handles four full HD video feeds and features hot‑swappable HDD bays to reduce maintenance time. As a result, the central control station can adjust traffic flows, control ventilation and pre-empt incidents, improving safety, comfort and travel times across the province.
