A Advantech Case Study
European Toy Manufacturing Company built a new multi-building campus and needed 24/7 IP video surveillance, but faced two problems: the campus backbone was multi-mode fiber while outdoor cameras had 100 Mbps copper interfaces, and many cameras were far from power outlets. The customer required rugged equipment with extended temperature specs and the ability to observe and report faults remotely. They turned to Advantech and its media-conversion/PoE solution to address these constraints.
Advantech deployed the B+B PoE+ Giga-MiniMc with LFPT, a compact media converter with two 10/100/1000 Mbps PoE ports (up to 25 W per port) and a hot‑swappable SFP supporting 100 Mbps or 1 Gbps, eliminating the need to run dedicated power lines to cameras and future‑proofing bandwidth. Built-in LFPT and PoE Reset diagnostics give centralized fault reporting and remote reset capability, and the unit’s 0 to +70° C rating and simple unmanaged design made installation straightforward. The result: reliable, cost‑effective campus-wide surveillance with powered camera links over fiber, clear fault visibility to the central office, and an easy upgrade path to Gigabit by swapping the SFP.
