A Advantech Case Study
Leading Storage and Management Company operated a large underground data center cooled by water from an expansive underground lake but struggled to monitor environmental conditions because the 19th‑century mine site had limited power, few data connections, heavy dust and a hostile RF environment; prior attempts had failed. The customer engaged Advantech, deploying the Wzzard Mesh Wireless Sensing Solution (Wzzard nodes and SmartSwarm gateway) to overcome those constraints.
Advantech installed 31 battery‑operated Wzzard nodes measuring air, surface and ~15‑inch sub‑surface temperatures, a SmartSwarm 342 gateway connected via fiber to an Advantech Panel PC, and a Node‑RED dashboard, with extra nodes used as repeaters for coverage. The Advantech solution delivered an end‑to‑end monitoring system that runs for years on batteries, achieves 99.999% data reliability in adverse conditions, and provided full thermal visibility to prevent hotspots and optimize data center capacity.
