Embedded Platform Wireless Solution for Smart Lighting Application

US Lighting Company sought to upgrade its street-light product line into a smart lighting solution with embedded sensors and remote wireless management, but faced challenges around wide operating temperature ranges, wireless security integration, and antenna/RF certification. Advantech stepped in to provide the wireless module and integration support, supplying its EWM‑W162M Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth M.2 combo card to meet the project requirements.

Advantech implemented the EWM‑W162M (802.11ac/a/b/g/n + Bluetooth 4.2) with Linux driver integration, helped the customer with antenna selection and RF certification, and enabled WPA/WPA2/WEP and IEEE 802.11i (AES/CCMP, TKIP/CMAC) security on the platform. The solution delivered -30 to +85 °C operation, dual‑band secure connectivity, Bluetooth support, and five‑year product longevity, enabling US Lighting Company to deploy reliable, secure remote‑managed smart street lighting for smart‑city applications.
