E-Vehicle Charging Stations Powered by Microsoft Azure Cloud Services

EV Charging needed a scalable, secure way to manage distributed, solar-powered public EV charging stations that rely on many meters and sensors and must operate safely near fuel pumps. Advantech provided the edge hardware and platform support—deploying its UTX-3117 fanless IoT gateway together with the WISE-PaaS Edge Intelligence Platform and Microsoft Azure Cloud Services—to meet requirements for local data collection, device connectivity, and centralized remote monitoring.

Advantech’s solution used the UTX-3117 at each site plus Azure IoT Hub, Stream Analytics, Cosmos DB and Power BI to deliver real-time monitoring and control, device traceability, dashboards for operators, and driver-facing apps. The deployment enabled centralized management, big-data analytics for strategic planning, and measurable benefits such as improved bandwidth utilization (reducing costs), better equipment availability visibility, and faster decision-making for station operators and policymakers.
