A Advantech Case Study
MindRay, a global medical device developer and manufacturer, faced the risk of malware, unauthorized USB or dongle infections, and tampering with calibration values or patient records that could endanger patients and drive up repair-and-maintenance costs. Many MindRay products are embedded with Advantech’s System on a Module (SoM) and required a whitelist-based security approach to lock device functions and reduce after‑sales R&M burden.
Advantech delivered its embedded SoM together with an advanced security solution using Intel’s McAfee Application Control whitelisting technology to allow only authorized programs to run and block unauthorized code. Advantech’s implementation increased device stability, security and reliability, reduced the frequency—and therefore cost—of repairs and maintenance, and helped preserve patient data to prevent or resolve disputes.
