Arm Mbed End-to-End Security Protects Data in Smart Manufacturing

Arm, a leader in processor and security architecture, faced the challenge of protecting sensitive IoT data across smart manufacturing and critical infrastructure where legacy wired systems (like RS‑485) were bulky and vulnerable. To address device-to-cloud security needs and secure firmware updates, Arm worked with vendor Advantech, which provided Arm‑based hardware and software including WISE‑1520 sensor nodes, WISE‑3620 IoT gateways, and the WISE‑PaaS platform with Arm Mbed Cloud integration.

Advantech deployed a wireless, low‑power solution built on Arm TrustZone and Arm Mbed end‑to‑end security, using cloud‑issued “golden keys” for trusted device registration and secure transmission. The Advantech implementation replaced complex cabling at a power plant, enabled secure over‑the‑air updates and device‑root protection from chip to cloud, and delivered cost‑effective, reliable wireless data collection while reducing wiring and management overhead.
