Arm Mbed Cloud Remote Software Update for Smart Agriculture

International Agricultural Technology Company partnered with Advantech to pilot intelligent farming across 1,500 paddy fields in four Asia‑Pacific countries. The customer faced the challenge of wide‑area remote monitoring (water level/temperature, humidity, pest risk) and needed a way to recalibrate and update many outdoor sensors without costly on‑site visits; Advantech proposed using WISE‑1510 sensor nodes, WISE‑3610 gateways, LoRa connectivity and Arm Mbed Cloud services via the WISE‑PaaS Marketplace.

Advantech implemented a LoRa‑based sensor network with WISE‑1510s and WISE‑3610s connected to Arm Mbed Cloud for secure, fail‑safe remote firmware, OS and application updates, device provisioning and cloud orchestration. The solution enabled automatic watering triggers, real‑time dashboards and pest alerts, removed the need for manual sensor calibrations across the pilot, extended device life, and reduced maintenance and communication costs—delivering measurable operational savings and improved crop management.
