Advantech’s Robust Industrial-Grade Switches Connect Devices and Machines for an Interconnected Network on the Shop Floor

Symtek Automation Asia, a Taiwan-based factory automation customer, needed to implement an Industry 4.0 intelligent production line that connected barcode readers, PLCs, HMIs, robotic arms, motors, AGVs/RGVs and fanless PCs. Faced with heavy electromagnetic interference and harsh shop-floor conditions, they required robust industrial-grade networking; they selected Advantech’s EKI-5000 series unmanaged industrial switches to meet those requirements.

Advantech deployed EKI-5525/5528/5526 switches together with ARK-3510/1550 fanless PCs and an HPC-7442 data center to build an Ethernet-based network that aggregates shop-floor data to the central control for storage, monitoring and ERP integration. The Advantech solution provided Level 3 EMC protection, –40 to 75 °C operation, ~3 million-hour MTBF and a 5-year warranty, enabling stable communications, faster data-driven operations and improved productivity, efficiency and return on investment (with short lead times of 3–5 days).
