Advantech's Electronic Cam Solution Optimizes the Processing Efficiency of a High-Speed Double Twister

Qingdao Textile Machinery Co., Ltd., a long-established designer and manufacturer of textile machinery, needed to modernize its high-speed double twister to improve flexibility, reduce maintenance, and meet diverse yarn specifications. The company’s twister relied on a single mechanical cam and inverter-based control that limited motion curve switching, required frequent maintenance, and constrained processing efficiency. To address this, Qingdao worked with Advantech to replace the mechanical cam with an electronic cam solution.

Advantech implemented its electronic cam system using the Advantech CODESYS real-time kernel, an APAX-5580 PAC, and APAX/iDoor I/O modules with EtherCAT and CANopen connectivity to support servo drives and 192 DC brushless cone motors while integrating the existing C# HMI. The upgrade from inverter to servo control boosted equipment capacity from 75 to 120 m/min, delivered stable operation during a two-month continuous test, reduced mechanical wear and maintenance, and—backed by Advantech’s global service network—helped Qingdao commercialize the upgraded twister internationally.
