A Advantech Case Study
Munich Re, a leading reinsurer, highlighted that natural disasters caused roughly US$175 billion in losses in 2016, with floods alone about US$40 billion, creating an urgent need for precise flood prediction and rapid response. Facilities like water treatment plants require flood monitoring that can operate reliably in remote, high-humidity, and wide-temperature environments. To address this, Advantech provided its Wzzard LRPv series and SmartSwarm 243 Gateways as the core of a flood monitoring and warning system.
Advantech’s solution uses Wzzard LRPv Nodes and SmartSwarm 243 Gateways to create a low-power LoRa sensor network that reports rainfall, ground saturation, and upstream water levels to PCs, cloud applications, or SCADA systems, enabling automated alarms, SMS alerts, and coordinated emergency responses. The Advantech system delivers AES-secured, IP66-rated hardware with dual power options (battery/solar), ultra-low power consumption, and no telecom fees—reducing network operating and maintenance costs while improving timely detection and response to flood risks.
