A Advantech Case Study
Leading Screw and Nut Manufacturer partnered with Advantech to build a predictive maintenance system for its high-speed screw forming machines, which produce 6.6 billion nuts per year. The customer faced high risk of costly downtime because die wear was hard to detect—previously technicians relied on subjective listening in noisy factories—so they needed a local, cost-effective IIoT solution rather than an expensive overseas option. Advantech supplied the hardware and platform (IPC-7220, AIMB-584G2, PCIE-1810, PCLD-8712) and supported sensor-based monitoring.
Advantech’s solution installed piezoelectric sensors on the forming machines, routed signals through the PCLD-8712 and PCIE-1810 into the IPC-7220/AIMB-584G2 system, and continuously analyzed vibration waveforms to detect die deterioration. Implemented in under six months, the system enabled accurate die-status detection, optimized replacement timing, significantly reduced the likelihood of equipment failure and unplanned downtime, and improved the machines’ availability rate.
