A Secure Way to Activate the Windows Server 2016 without Internet Connectivity

Leading Electronic Service Provider, a major supplier of electronic systems for military, security and commercial aviation, planned to run Windows Server 2016 on its full‑body scanner systems but could not permit internet connections required for standard OS activation. Advantech was engaged to find a secure activation method that avoided pre‑activation on the production line (which would add labor, raise compliance risks, and complicate field reactivation).

Advantech implemented a BIOS‑based activation mechanism that pairs a pre‑inserted OS product key with a matching certificate embedded in the BIOS, removing the need for online activation. Advantech applied the special key, generated and inserted the BIOS certificate, and completed the integration in about two weeks; as a result the scanner systems activate securely without internet access and now meet regulatory requirements while avoiding production‑line pre‑activation costs and compliance issues.
