Ballard Power Systems Inc creates a full-scale FCmove®-HD+ prototype with Advanta Design in 2021

Advanta Design partnered with Ballard Power Systems Inc to tackle the visual and industrial design challenge for their new FCmove®-HD+ hydrogen fuel cell. The product needed a compelling visual identity that was also highly durable, capable of being walked on, and able to withstand the harsh operating environments of buses and trucks.

The solution from Advanta Design involved a collaborative strategy to create the product's visual design and introduce innovative manufacturing processes, such as vacuum sand casting for superior parts. Advanta also managed vendors to expedite pre-production and built a full-scale, realistic prototype for marketing, which allowed Ballard to generate launch materials without waiting for functional units. This approach helped speed up the evaluation process and provided valuable insights ahead of the product's final release.
