Springfields Migrates Nuclear Fuel Application from Openvms Platform to Windows

Westinghouse Springfields Fuels Ltd, a nuclear fuel manufacturing company, faced the challenge of modernizing its plant by replacing its aging DEC VAX hardware and proprietary OpenVMS platform. With no package replacements available for its unique control systems application, the company needed a low-risk migration path to a more modern and flexible environment. They engaged Advanced, which used its toolset for OpenVMS to automate the migration process.

Advanced successfully migrated the application to a Windows Server environment, converting the code and replacing the database with Oracle. This solution provided Springfields Fuels with a system in a single programming language, maintainable within the Microsoft Visual Studio environment. The client reported a highly successful project, citing that Advanced delivered on time and to budget, and will benefit from reduced operating costs and greater future reliability.
