A Advanced Case Study
Relay Software, a long-standing insurance broker software provider, needed a unified database to let its existing COBOL-based broker system share data with a newer .NET Life Insurance Broker application. The company wanted to combine information from both systems in SQL Server to improve reporting, support cross-selling, and ensure a single accurate copy of client details. Relay turned to Advanced and its DBPronto product for a non-intrusive way to access the new database without rewriting COBOL code.
Advanced implemented DBPronto to intercept COBOL I/O at runtime, create a metadata layer, and map COBOL data items to Relay’s existing SQL Server schema. The solution enabled integration without changing a line of COBOL, while also supporting faster development and easier testing. Advanced helped Relay deliver a customized, scalable integrated product with a rollout plan and pricing model aligned to end-user value.
