MIBRAG Migrates Its Critical Mining Systems from Openvms to a Flexible Windows Server Environment

MIBRAG, a major German brown coal mining company, faced the challenge of de-risking its critical mining and data processing systems from an ageing OpenVMS platform. With no package replacement available, the company required a migration to ensure future reliability. They selected Advanced for the project, which utilized its OpenVMS toolset and PathFinder Assessment service to analyze and execute the migration.

Advanced successfully migrated the applications to a Microsoft Windows Server environment, replacing the Rdb database with Oracle 11g and deploying Open Libr8 and Open DCL for support. The project was delivered on time and on budget. For MIBRAG, the solution reduced operating costs and provided greater reliability and flexibility, consolidating their skill-set within a modern Microsoft development environment for future integration.
