Cashco Migrates Customised System from Openvms to a Fresh, Sustainable Environment

Advanced, a technology services provider, helped Cashco, a leading control valve manufacturer, overcome a significant IT challenge. Cashco's entire operation ran on a highly customized 25-year-old OpenVMS system with Fortran code, creating a risky dependency on an aging platform and scarce programming skills. They needed to modernize their system to ensure future sustainability and gain access to the latest Oracle database tools.

The solution from Advanced involved conducting a PathFinder assessment and then migrating the entire system from OpenVMS to an Oracle Enterprise Linux platform. This required translating the existing Fortran code to the C language. As a result of the migration executed by Advanced, Cashco's new system performs four to five times faster on new hardware. The company also mitigated its skills shortage risk and modernized its database capabilities, all while retaining its valuable business logic without disrupting operations.
