Balfour Beatty Successfully Migrates Bespoke Openvms Product Design System to Windows

Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions faced rising maintenance costs and the risk of running a business-critical product design system on a proprietary DEC VAX/OpenVMS platform. To address this, Balfour Beatty worked with Advanced on an OpenVMS application migration project to move the bespoke design suite to a more flexible Windows environment.

Advanced first carried out a PathFinder assessment, then used its migration toolset to automate most of the ALGOL and Fortran code migration to Windows Server 2003. The project was delivered to a fixed budget, required no user retraining, and helped Balfour Beatty reduce costs, lower risk, and continue improving the system with an increasing return on investment.
