Railroad Component Manufacturer, a leader in railcar components, needed a practical way to keep its union workforce current on increasingly complex maintenance skills for modern production equipment. Advanced Technology Services (ATS) was brought in to provide SkillPoint Technical Training Solutions, helping address skill gaps, retiree knowledge loss, and skepticism around changing job requirements.

ATS delivered onsite, hands-on training at the factory using practice machinery with the same electrical circuitry and hydraulics as the production environment, scheduled around all work shifts to fit union work rules. ATS also combined its instruction with the customer’s Tooling U online curriculum to build multi-craft technicians. The program earned strong buy-in, and one year in, nine technicians were expected to graduate for an 82% completion rate; union officials also began advocating for more ATS training.
