Subsonus USBL Helps Geosurvey Mexicana Access New Markets

Geosurvey Mexicana, a Mexico-based DGPS and marine survey specialist serving the energy and resources industry, needed an accurate and cost-effective underwater navigation solution to support suction pile installation and win bids on projects they could not previously compete for. They turned to Advanced Navigation and its Subsonus USBL system to meet their requirements for USBL acoustic positioning, position, and heading.

Advanced Navigation supplied Subsonus USBL along with bespoke firmware support to fit Geosurvey Mexicana’s specific needs. In testing against an existing, more expensive USBL system, Subsonus matched or outperformed it, with standard deviation remaining nearly unchanged at 20 and 40 meters from the beacon while the reference system degraded as distance increased. This helped Geosurvey Mexicana access new markets with a smaller, lower-cost solution from Advanced Navigation.
