Preview of the Tassal Case Study

Enhancing Aquaculture Sustainability with Hydrus

Tassal, Australia’s largest vertically integrated salmon, barramundi and prawn grower and seafood processor, needed a better way to monitor seabed health beneath its fish pens while meeting environmental regulations. Working with Advanced Navigation, the company explored the Hydrus micro hovering autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to replace more resource-intensive tethered ROV-based benthic surveys.

Advanced Navigation implemented Hydrus to capture flat, high-quality seabed imagery, automate time and location logging, and run preset missions with minimal setup. The result was more efficient and frequent seabed monitoring, improved data quality, easier review of mission data immediately after recovery, and reduced reliance on large crews and expensive equipment, helping Tassal lower costs and environmental impact while improving stewardship.
