Advancing Humanoid Robots PAL Robotics Strides Forward With Orientus

PAL Robotics, a Spanish robotics company known for its humanoid platforms TALOS and Kangaroo, needed a way to achieve human-like balance, stability, and motion in dynamic environments. Replicating human movement in bipedal robots is especially difficult because it requires ultra-precise real-time state estimation while navigating uneven terrain and constantly shifting body dynamics.

To meet this challenge, PAL Robotics integrated Advanced Navigation’s Orientus IMU/AHRS into its robots. Advanced Navigation’s low-latency sensor, with 1 kHz measurement frequency, provided accurate base pose tracking and the responsiveness needed for walking, running, and jumping without relying on external cameras or lidars. The result was improved balance, agility, and stability for TALOS and Kangaroo, helping PAL Robotics advance its humanoid robotics research and commercial platforms.
