A Advance Systems Case Study
St. Bernard’s Group Homes is a Fethard-based health agency established in 1975 that provides 24-hour care and support to children who have suffered abuse. With 70–80 staff across four main units and an off-site unit for children with physical disabilities, the organisation relied on a manual rostering system that generated heavy paperwork, frequent errors and made it difficult to track varied shifts and part-time hours—especially for weekend work—while ensuring only authorised staff were present.
In February 2004 St. Bernard’s implemented Mitrefinch Time and Attendance with biometric (finger) readers. Unit managers now check exceptions and send reports to payroll, and the off-site unit is fully integrated. The system cut administration, reduced errors, improved payroll accuracy for part-time and shift workers, and enhanced site security—delivering significant time savings and reliable staff verification with minimal training.
